Buy Baumalight mulchers by the machine you run, since each series is built around one carrier. MP brush mulchers hang on a tractor's 3-point hitch and run off the PTO with a slip clutch guarding the driveline, MS mulchers mount on skid steers and mini skid steers with hydraulic motors matched to your auxiliary flow, and MX mulchers fit excavators from 1.5 ton minis up to the 29 to 33 ton class.

Rotor size and teeth separate the models inside each series. The MS548, MS560, and MS572 pair a 15-inch rotor with carbide-tipped planer teeth for efficient cutting, while the heavy-duty MS972 and MS1160 forestry mulchers step up to 18.5-inch and 19.3-inch rotors for commercial clearing. Baumalight recommends the optional ripper design for 500 Series heads working rocky fence lines. The MP range also sits alongside every other tractor mulcher we carry.

Compact Tractors

The best Baumalight mulcher for a compact tractor is the MP348 Brush Mulcher for PTO on Tractors, rated for 25 to 50 engine horsepower on a CAT 1 3-point hitch at 540 RPM. Its 48-inch rotor and 60-inch path width handle vegetation and light brush up to 4 inches, and a slip clutch protects the driveline.

Standard-Flow Skid Steers

The best Baumalight mulcher for a standard-flow skid steer is the MS548 Fixed Tooth Brush Mulcher, offered with motors from an 8 to 20 GPM roller-vane option up to a 25 to 35 GPM piston motor. Built on Baumalight's fence-line 500 Series, it suits heavy brush removal with a 48-inch rotor and 62-inch path on carriers of about 4,000 lbs.

Mini Skid Steers

The best Baumalight mulcher for a mini skid steer is the MS530 Fixed Tooth Mulcher, sold with a mini universal, Bobcat MT or ASV RT40 mount. An integrated push bar bends taller brush, adjustable skid shoes set cutting height, and it ships with a free belt and 6 free replacement teeth.

Mini Excavators

The best Baumalight mulcher for a mini excavator is the MX330 Fixed Tooth Brush Mulcher, configured for the 1.5 to 6 ton or 7 to 9 ton class. Its carbide-tipped high-speed teeth rotate to keep a sharp edge, and integrated skid shoes help the head float over the ground.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Baumalight mulcher fits my machine?

Match the series to your carrier. MP mulchers mount on a tractor's 3-point hitch and run off the PTO, MS mulchers fit skid steers and mini skid steers, and MX mulchers fit excavators. Inside each series, rotor width and horsepower or motor flow narrow the choice. Our Baumalight series guide walks through each series in more detail.

How much horsepower does the Baumalight MP348 need?

The MP348 needs a tractor with 25 to 50 engine horsepower and no more than 40 PTO horsepower. It mounts on a CAT 1 3-point hitch, runs at 540 RPM and works with a quick hitch. It needs no hydraulic remotes, and the slip clutch disengages at a set torque to protect the gearbox.

What hydraulic flow do Baumalight skid steer mulchers need?

Baumalight skid steer mulchers run on anywhere from 8 to 75 GPM, depending on the model and motor. The MS548 starts with an 8 to 20 GPM roller-vane motor, the MS530 is set up for 12 to 20 GPM mini machines, and the MS960, MS972 and MS1160 offer a 20 to 75 GPM two-speed motor. Several piston motors require a case drain.

Should I choose planer or ripper teeth?

Choose planer teeth for efficient cutting of woody vegetation and ripper teeth for rocky ground, fence lines or frequent ground contact. Planer teeth take small bites, while ripper teeth shred and are less susceptible to hard-object impacts. The MS1472 uses both, with planer teeth through the center of the rotor and carbide rippers toward the outside.

Can Baumalight mulchers cut below grade?

Some can. The MP560 and MP572 work from 1.5 inches above to 1 inch below grade; the MP972 reaches from level to 2 inches below grade; and the MP330, MP348, and MP360 run at level. The MS548 and MS972 listings note that working above grade helps limit contact between carbide teeth and abrasive soil.
