This 5 ft. sickle bar mower head is built specifically for the Eterra Raptor Boom Arm. A sickle bar shears vegetation between opposing blades rather than beating it with a rotating flail, which means a clean cut, almost no thrown debris, and a fraction of the horsepower draw. On the end of a Raptor boom it reaches ditch banks, fence lines and under guardrail without putting the machine anywhere near the edge. Available from Skid Steer Store.

Why a Sickle Bar Instead of a Flail or Rotary

• Almost no thrown material — the shearing action drops cuttings in place, which matters near traffic, glass, livestock and parked vehicles.
• Low power draw — cuts a wide swath on modest hydraulic flow.
• Clean cut, faster regrowth — sheared stems recover better than shredded ones, so pasture and roadside vegetation comes back healthier.
• Quiet operation — noticeably less noise than rotary or flail cutting.
• Handles wet and aquatic growth — cuts reeds, cattails and shoreline vegetation that clogs a flail.

Raptor Boom Mower Head Options

The 5 ft. head is the most maneuverable of the three sickle bars. Choose it when you are working around posts, signs, culverts and trees rather than open stretches.

Cutting Capacity

Eterra sickle bar mowers cut grass, weeds, reeds and brush up to roughly 2" in diameter. For anything heavier, look at the Sidewinder flail or Cyclone rotary heads instead.

Can I use this without a Raptor Boom Arm?

What will it cut?

Why choose 5 ft. over 7 or 9?
Maneuverability. A shorter bar is easier to place precisely around obstacles and lighter at full boom extension. Longer bars cover more ground on open runs.

Does it throw debris?
Very little. The shearing action drops cuttings roughly where they fall, which is why sickle bars are favoured for roadside work near traffic and property.
